General Dynamics won an $8.3 million modification for lead yard support and development studies and design efforts related to Virginia Class submarines. Work will be performed in the continental US and is expected to be completed by December 2024. The Virginia-Class new attack submarine is an advanced stealth multimission nuclear-powered submarine for deep ocean anti-submarine warfare and littoral (shallow water) operations.
Austal USA has begun constructing the US Navy’s Auxiliary Floating Dock Medium (AFDM) at its facility in Mobile, Alabama. The AFDM is a “Rennie” type of dry dock featuring continuous wing walls and sectional pontoons. These capabilities provide naval operators with the stability and displacement to submerge and lift vessels.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced a record $12.5 billion in Israeli defense exports for the year of 2022. The data was presented at a defense industry conference, led by the Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. Israel has once again reached an all-time peak in defense exports in 2022, marking the second consecutive record-breaking year in the scope of defense agreements. Around 120 Israeli defense industries signed hundreds of significant contracts around the world, including mega-deals amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Europe
Rockwell Collins won a $57 million deal or KC-135 Avionics Sustainment Engineering Services (ASES). This contract provides for sustainment of the avionics, communications and electrical systems, subsystems, related avionics systems components, and associated ground and flight software used on the KC-135 aircraft weapon systems. This acquisition will include ASES services for Foreign Military Sales to Chile, France, and Turkey. Work will be performed at Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma; and Huntsville, Alabama, and is expected to be completed by June 14, 2033.
Asia-Pacific
BAE Systems has been selected to integrate a mine countermeasure capability into South Korea’s new anti-mine helicopter fleet. Part of a $9.4-million deal with Korea Aerospace Industries, the British company will supply its Archerfish single-shot mine disposal system to the Asian nation. According to BAE, the system is capable of identifying mine threats and emitting a shaped charge warhead for effective detonation of the target.
