This contract award also benefits a foreign military sale to the United Kingdom. Work will be performed in Rockville, Maryland (58.2%); Washington, DC, (23.8%); Saint Mary’s, Georgia (3.3%); Cape Canaveral, Florida (2.3%); Rochester, United Kingdom (1.7%); Bremerton, Washington (1.3%); Portsmouth, Virginia (1.0%); and various other locations (less than 1% each, 8.4% total). Work is expected to be completed Sept. 30, 2024, and will be incrementally funded.

The US Air Force Reserve Command has launched a program to enlist “cutting-edge talents” to enhance the US Department of Defense’s cyber competitiveness. Participants qualifying through the program will serve as new cybersecurity and cyber warfare officers under the Air Force Warfighter Communications Operators (17D) and Cyberspace Effects Operators (17S).

Middle East and Africa

Raytheon won an estimated $18.7 million contract modification, which for an additional 18 months of sustainment support for the Qatar AOC system. The modification brings the total cumulative face value of the contract to $127,528,264. Work will be performed in the state of Qatar and is expected to be completed by April 22, 2025. This contract was a sole source acquisition.

Europe

The US Air Force has designated Morris Air National Guard Base in Arizona as the selected location to house up to nine Slovak-owned F-16s. This arrangement is set to commence in the spring of 2024 and extend through fiscal year 2026 at the 162nd Wing. The arrival of these Slovak-owned F-16s at Morris ANGB will necessitate an increase of nearly 30 Air National Guard personnel. Notably, out of the potential nine aircraft, only four will be actively utilized for the flying training of Slovak Air Force pilots.

Asia-Pacific

Tragedy struck the Indonesian Air Force on November 16 as two EMB-314 Super Tucano light attack aircraft were lost during a training mission in East Java. The incident claimed the lives of four pilots on board the aircraft. Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Agung Sasongkojati addressed the media in a news conference at Abdulrahman Saleh Air Base in Malang, East Java. He indicated that preliminary findings suggest adverse weather conditions played a significant role in the tragic mishap.

The US Army awarded Sikorsky with a $21.7 million deal for the modification of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in Stratford, Connecticut, with an estimated completion date of June 30, 2027. Fiscal 2022 Foreign Military Sales (Thailand) funds in the full amount were obligated at the time of the award.

Lockheed Martin won an $8 million order, which exercises an option to procure diminishing manufacturing sources, to include lamp module assemblies and filter packs in support of the operation of F-35 ProSim Projectors for non-Department of Defense (DOD) participants and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers. Work will be performed in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom; and Fort Worth, Texas, and is expected to be completed in June 2026.
StandardAero Inc. won a $209.5 million modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price, time-and-materials, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract (N0001918D0110). This modification exercises an option to provide P-8A Poseidon CFM56-7B27A/3 and CFM56-7B27AE engine depot-level maintenance and repair in support of the Navy, the government of Australia, and Foreign Military Sales customers. Work will be performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Cincinnati, Ohio; and San Antonio, Texas, and is expected to be completed in October 2024.

The US Air Force has announced that its B-21 Raider stealth bomber completed its inaugural flight on November 10. A video captured uploaded on X shows the futuristic warplane flying over Palmdale, California, where it has reportedly been under rigorous testing and development. Developed by Northrop Grumman, the B-21 is the first new bomber aircraft in the US Air Force inventory in more than 30 years.
The Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) first-ever MQ-4C Triton drone completed its inaugural flight in Palmdale, California. The maiden flight was carried out amid weeks of delay due to unspecified technical issues in previous taxi tests. The aircraft, which rolled out of Northrop Grumman’s factory in September last year, had its first flight pushed back by a few weeks due to some technical issues encountered during early taxi tests.
